Rokus van Blokland attended the new Course for Industrial Design (CIV) in The Hague. It started in 1950, the first time the course was given. Teachers were among others Gerard Kiljan, Cor Alons and Gerrit Rietveld.
The assignments that Rokus received and worked on during his studies were an incentive for him to continue with them, both in his own work and in his designs for Sio.
This independent work was encouraged by the director of Sio Vroomshoop, Mr. Mertens.
For the technical execution, Rokus received regular help from Mr. Marsman, the model builder in the workshop of the Sio factory in Vroomshoop.
Design assignment from teacher G. Th. Rietveld (CIV Form Studies, Experimental Practice/Practical Aesthetics). The outer dimensions of the rectangular shape/proportion were given.
Rectangular three-dimensional shapes are removed from a volume, extending to the opposite plane.
The volume was colored; white on the outside, red on the inside.
Dimensions: 10.2 x 6.7 x 6.7 cm.
